MAAC –MÚSICA ANTIGA ASSOCIAÇÃO CULTURAL is the promotor of the 1st International Harpsichord Competition 'Count of Oeiras', that will take place at Marquês de Pombal Palace in Oeiras, from 6 to 7 July 2018.

 

1. This competition is intended to be biennial and is open to applicants of any nationality who complete 30 years of age until the date of 1 October of each edition year. Deadline for applications is 31 May.

2. The application form has to be filled and send from this website. The registration fee € 75 (net of any bank fee) and it has to be transferred to the account PT50 0045 9071 4023 9279 1776 5 - BIC / SWIFT CCCMPTPL.

It also must be sent to IHCCO e-mail the following attachments:

A recording file for the pre-selection round (.mp3 or .mp4)

A copy of the competitor’s ID or passport (PDF)

A short curriculum vitae, either in Portuguese, French or English (PDF)

One recent colour photograph (JPEG, 300 dpi), with no copyrights

A copy of the bank transfer order

3. Registration fee is not refundable for any reason. 

4. Only completed and signed applications will be accepted and examined.

5. Applicants who decide to withdraw from the competition must communicate it to the competition’s office by sending an email to IHCCO until 15 June.

6. The competition consists of three rounds: pre-selection, semifinal and final.

7. All the rounds, except for the pre-selection, are open to the public. 

8. The pre-selection round consists in listening the recorded music files. The recording has to be, if possible, of excellent technical quality. The recording must not contain any cuts or changes.

9. The recorded copy will be made anonymous.

10. The jury members will evaluate the recording individually.

11. The applicants will be advised by e-mail of their acceptance after 15 June 2018. 

12. The selected candidates to the semifinal should send the list of pieces that they are going to play with the approximate duration to IHCCO e-mail. Who decide to withdraw from the semifinal round must communicate it to the competition’s office until 30 June 2018.

INSTRUMENTS

The principal harpsichord for the competition is the Geert Karman double-flemish GG-d3 that will serve to semifinal and final rounds. Apart from this one, two more instruments will be provided to candidates for rehearsals: 2 Double-flemish GG-d3 harpsichords Marc Ducornet, three choirs (2x8 and 1x4). Candidates will have the opportunity to try out Geert Karman double-flemish harpsichord on 4 and 5 July, and on 6 July according to the draw order.

SEMIFINAL AND FINAL ROUNDS

1. The semifinal round will be held on 6 July 2017. Scheduled time will be communicated.

2. Maximum of ten (10) candidates are admitted to the semifinal round.

3. Candidates admitted to semifinal are expected to arrive to the competition’s office at Marquês de Pombal Palace on 6 July, 10 a.m. A document of identification is required. Drawing lots will decide the order of rehearsals and performances.

4. Candidates who wish to come earlier after 4 July for rehearsals must inform the IHCCO until 30 June.

5. Only a maximum of five (5) candidates will be admitted to the final round, which will be held 7 July. Scheduled time will be communicated.

6. All jury’s decisions are final and will not be contested. 

7. The jury has the right to interrupt the performance of the candidate, or to ask the candidate to perform only parts of the selected works.

8. Eventual first three (3) classified candidates will perform in a final concert on the evening of July 7 within festival activities.

9. All semi-finalists will receive a diploma of participation.

10. All candidates are responsible for their travel and accommodation.

11. The semifinal and the final round of the competition may be recorded, filmed and broadcast live and/or subsequently by radio, television and Internet. All rights to record, to reproduce on any physical (CD, DVD, etc.) and/or digital support, and to broadcast the live performances and/or subsequently by radio, television and Internet, belong to MAAC – Música Antiga Associação Cultural, with no obligation to recognize any fee.

12. By entering the competition, the candidates accept and agree all of these rules. Any changes, if needed, will be communicated to the participants timely.

13. MAAC takes no responsibility for any eventual damages to candidates or their property during the competition.

The official languages of the competition are Portuguese, French, English and Italian.

2. Johann Sebastian Bach: Two (2) contrasting movements of a French Suite

SEMIFINAL ROUND

1. François Couperin: Four (4) contrasting movements of an Ordre distinct from the pre-selection

2. Johann Sebastian Bach: Four (4) sets of Prelude and Fugue from Well Tempered Klavier

FINAL ROUND

François Couperin: Ordre Complete

Johann Sebastian Bach: Four (4) contrasting movements of an English Suite
